Class #1 (9/1/26)  Long Leaf Park Gazebo - please park near the pond, by Freedom Way & Hugh McRae Park Rd.

Step away from the desk and into the living page. This field-based class takes writers into the landscapes that inspire — Airlie Gardens, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach State Park, Longleaf Park, Halyburton Park and the NHC Arboretum — to write, read and talk together in place. Each meeting blends craft discussion with on-site writing and close observation. Each location has a covered area available in case of inclement weather.

Raised on a Pennsylvania farm near Lake Erie, Rhonda Waterhouse developed a deep connection to land and water. She earned an MFA in creative nonfiction with an environmental focus from UNCW, where she now teaches. Waterhouse is also a freelance environmental journalist whose work has appeared in Black Warrior Review, American Submariner, Coastal Review and storySouth, among others.
