ID : 2928

« back to classes page
National policy initiatives have dramatically shifted on coal, wind, EVs, and more, and this has filtered down to the state level. This lecture examines energy use and changes over time, along with current issues associated with energy demand in NC. We discuss policy plans such as prolonged reliance on coal plants, increased reliance on natural gas and nuclear sources, and avoidance of wind energy. We also consider the roles batteries and data centers may play going forward as we delve into the changing energy landscape.

Roger Shew has taught at UNCW for nearly two decades, both in the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences. He is actively involved with local organizations, including Cape Fear River Watch, the Cape Fear Arch Conservation Collaboration and the Nature Conservancy.
