This class explores the rise of several great civilizations on the African continent, many of which were established and grew during Europe's Middle Ages. We delve into four examples: Kenya and Egypt; King Lalibela and Menelik; wealthy kingdoms of West Africa; and major cosmopolitan cities in the sub-Saharan region.

Daniel Wegener enjoyed a long career as an educator after earning a degree in anthropology. He has a long-standing interest in history and social justice and has traveled extensively.
