Flashpoints in Wilmington History

The course covers pivotal events in local history including the Revolutionary period, the Civil War, the 1898 Wilmington coup, World War II, urban renewal and the trial of the “Wilmington 10” and its aftermath. We examine these historical moments and the flow of history that links them. 

A native of Wales, Gareth Evans has lived in Wilmington for 28 years. He has been executive director of Preservation North Carolina’s Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts since 2010.
