This series celebrates Jane Austen’s 250th birthday. Sessions include discussions of her novels Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion and Mansfield Park as well as an examination of the most memorable details of dress and material culture in her oeuvre. Participants are encouraged to complete the readings and engage in discussions. The dates and topics are as follows:
March 5: Sense and Sensibility

March 19: Dress and Material Culture in the Age of Austen
March 26: Mansfield Park
April 9: Mansfield Park

Katherine Montwieler, Ph.D., chair of the theatre department, leads two sessions on Mansfield Park. Jennifer Le Zotte, Ph.D. of UNCW’s Department of History discusses Austen’s use of details of dress and material culture in her novels.
