Do you hear bagpipes? That’s the sound of an ancient culture with a widespread diaspora through centuries of emigration. In the first session, learn about the musical traditions and cultural heritage of the bagpipes, an iconic Scottish instrument. In the second session, explore modern influences and how history and politics affected the spread of Scottish people throughout North Carolina and beyond.

Daniel Johnson is an accomplished bagpiper, ranked in the top one percent of his grade level by the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. A member of the Scottish Society of Wilmington, he regularly performs for a variety of civic events in the Cape Fear region and beyond.
