Lively 19th Century American Music: Songs, Piano, Opera!

ID : 2400

« back to classes page

One might think of the 19th century as a still-formative period in America, but in music, there was an explosion of activity!  From still-famous Stephen Foster songs to virtuoso piano music, to operas, the 19th century in American music was colorful and creative and showed remarkable American talent. Come have a listen!

Barry Salwen, long-time UNCW music professor and performing pianist, has been teaching American music for many years. OLLI-goers may be familiar with his previous courses which interweave his love of opera, European history and travel, some of which has added material to his exploration of American music.
