College sports are going through massive changes these days. From new NCAA rules allowing payment of student athletes and NIL (Name, Image & Likeness) rules, to the expanded transfer portal and conference realignment, playing, managing and coaching college sports is very different than it was just a few years ago. With an eye toward our own host institution, UNCW, this series explores the current state of college recruiting, explains NIL and the transfer portal, and reviews many of the macro-level trends in collegiate sports. Special guests include UNCW’s athletic director, Mike Oblinger, Jessica Willetts, assistant director of NIL & revenue generation and Kevin Hell, sports journalist.

William Bolduc taught media production for 30 years at UNCW. He has worked closely with athletics for much of his academic career including coaching at Flagler College and serving as the faculty athletic representative at UNCW.
