Nuclear Energy and the Environment

North Carolina is home to five commercial nuclear reactors. This course will cover the basics of nuclear science and how nuclear power plants operate. We discuss issues related to safety, radiation, impacts on the environment and public opinion. We also look at the state of the industry and future trends.  

Karen Williams has 15 years of experience working in the nuclear industry and currently works as the communication manager at Duke Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Plant, where she also runs the plant's education center.
