ID : 1837
« back to classes page
From the ghastly, ruthless monster to the sympathetic figure with a conscience, vampires have fascinated readers for centuries. In this discussion-based course, we explore the ways in which the vampire myth has evolved, common themes in many vampire stories, and the reasons for our fascination with these creatures. We’ll read John Polidori’s The Vampyre (1819), Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla (1872), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), and Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire (1976). We’ll also discuss relevant media such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Twilight.
