Higher education features prominently in the news nowadays. The landscape is changing among both Ivy League schools and community colleges. Some changes are generated from within institutions, but most are coming from outside: the federal administration, watchdog groups, parents, corporations and state legislatures, to name a few. This course examines the causes and effects of the pressures colleges and universities face.

Chet Gillis is professor emeritus at Georgetown University, where he served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He earned master’s degrees in philosophy and religious studies from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Chicago.
