Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction uses meditation and yoga to cultivate awareness and reduce stress. This course introduces participants to practices including focused attention, body scan, mindful movement, eating meditation, yoga and choiceless awareness. It includes an optional four-hour mindfulness retreat on a Saturday during the sixth week of the class. Breaks are built into class time; participants are also encouraged to take breaks as needed. Enrollment is limited.
Beverley McGuire is a professor of East Asian religions at UNCW. She is also a certified mindfulness teacher and yoga instructor. Lauren Arsenault is a certified yoga instructor and insight meditation practitioner. Both Arsenault and McGuire qualified to teach MBSR through Brown University’s School of Professional Studies.
