With more than two billion adherents worldwide, Islam is one of the world’s largest faith traditions. This course traces its history from its origins to the present day, examining it as both a religion and a comprehensive way of life. Participants are introduced to Islam’s major sacred texts and explore how geography, culture and historical context shape their interpretation and application across diverse Muslim societies.
Born and raised in Lebanon,?Samih Baalbaki worked as a lawyer consulting with major employers in the Middle East, spending 17 years in Dubai and traveling to 22 Arab countries. For the last twelve years, he has been teaching at OLLI at Coastal Carolina University.???
