« back to classes page

Sons of Russian immigrants, George and Ira Gershwin transformed American musical culture through popular songs, Broadway musicals, opera and instrumental/symphonic music. They created eternal classics in “new sounding” works, merging elements of popular, folk, blues, jazz, ethnic and classical music. This class includes live piano demonstrations, videos, narration and discussion, revisiting the Gershwins’ bold innovations and vast legacy.

Naomi Amos, pianist and professor, has taught at the collegiate level in Connecticut and Virginia and presented guest lectures and concerts nationally. Her favorite American composer is George Gershwin.
