National Board Candidates who do not achieve certification in the initial candidacy period may continue to attempt certification for up to 24 months from the date of the last initial score report. During this period, any candidate who did not achieve may retake any combination of portfolio entries and/or assessment center exercises.
The National Board Support Program will support retake (advanced) candidates through a series of workshops beginning in January 2026. Advanced candidates may register for sessions based on their need and sessions will focus on examining feedback, writing, and standard alignment. Advanced candidate sessions are virtual only.
