This course is a leap into the historical unknown. Most people correctly associate the Holocaust with the horrific, overt deeds of the evildoers. But few people know about some stunning behind-the-scenes events – both good and evil. We will discuss the inside story of the 1936 Nazi Olympics. We will learn about the large American corporations who chose to support Nazi Germany during World War II. We will also be uplifted by the stories of the many brave and altruistic individuals (including teens, diplomats, public figures, and Jews themselves) who risked their lives to rescue persecuted people. During this course, we will learn about unknown evil, but we'll also celebrate unknown, inspiring human goodness.

Howard Kerner was a professor of English for 47 years and published more than 100 scholarly articles, primarily on the Holocaust. In retirement, he has pursued his passion project: researching and presenting on the inspiring bravery of little-known Holocaust rescuers. He speaks regularly on the powerful stories of human goodness.
